As you may already know, legislative leadership in Washington is currently attempting to rush through a reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, also known as ESEA or by its must recent reauthorization name, No Child Left Behind.
While some very big promises are being made about how this reauthoirization will finally hand proper authority over many educational matters back to the states and the people, those paying close attention already realize that it's all marketing spin. The reauthorization will only hide federal control better. Plus the bill will make the states the enforcers, or bullies, in relationship to the federal mandates it contains.
The process alone by which this bill is being advanced--in the dark of night at the holidays, when leadership thinks we will be too distracted to do anything about it--tells us that there is a ton of bad stuff in this bill. Otherwise, why the secrecy? Why the rush?
Our founder and editor-in-chief, Kirsten Lombard, has recorded a message to help inform you on what's unfolding and how you can assist in pushing back against a bill that is barreling toward us--one that would have further massive negative implications on education for years to come.
Please watch the video, share it as widely as you can, and consider creating your own video message.
As promised in the video, we're providing, below, a list of House Freedom Caucus members to make it easier for you to reach those folks. As noted in our November 25th post, there's also a great Twitter action page that's been created by PJNet that makes it super easy to tweet at those caucus members.
Let's go get 'em, friends.
Let's kill this bill.
Let's #StopESEA!
