May 1, 2015 - Anthony Cody on Marc Tucker-style Education Reform, Pt 2

In Septermber of 2014, author and public education activist Anthony Cody wrote a blog post highly critical of "Fixing Our National Accountability System," a report then recently published by Marc Tucker, founder of the National Center on Education and the Economy (NCEE).

While the average person has likely never heard of Tucker or his organization, both have been highly influential in the world of education reform. In fact, many of the negative trends we see in education today relate closely to Tucker's vision, which has been advanced through an array of NCEE reports and initiatives issued over the course of more than two decades. Tucker has been especially successful at pitching his outlook to the business community. He was instrumental in the formation of Achieve, Inc., for example, which brought Big Business into troubling partnership with elected officials in an effort to affect education policy.

In this latest installment of the Resounding Books interview with, Mr. Cody, he discusses how high-stakes assessment, "accountability," and national standards fit--and ultimately work--together in a Marc Tucker-style approach to eudcation.
